I was born in Barcelona, the greatest city in the world. I graduated from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria de Telecomunicacions de Barcelona (ETSETB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in 2006 and obtained a Dipl.-Ing. in Telecommunications Engineering with a specialization in communications. During my graduation project, as a member of the Radio Communication Research Group of the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, he analyzed Radio Resource Management Strategies for Heterogeneous Mobile Networks GSM/EDGE+UMTS.
In 2006 I was awarded a Balsells Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. There I joined the Wireless Circuits and Systems Lab where he worked on the design and implementation of a wireless channel emulator for MIMO/OFDM 802.11n systems. I graduated with a MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in June 2008. Then he moved to New York City to work in a research project on interference mitigation in Femtocell Networks in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University in the City of New York, where I graduated in 2010 with a MPhil in Electrical Engineering.
From December 2010 to September 2015 I was a member of the AT&T’s Security Research Center, where I held the roles of Member of Technical Staff, Senior Member of Technical Staff and Principal Member of Technical Staff and was awarded the CSO Award, the CTO Award and the Key Contributor Award numerous times. At AT&T, I led the projects on LTE mobile network security, investigating PHY layer threats and LTE protocol exploits, as well as control plane signaling scalability issues.
From Sptember 2015 to May 2021 I was a Senior Security Architect at the CTO Security Architecture team of Bloomberg LP. I was a member of the team that owns and drives the security technology roadmap of the entire company. In that role, I was a technical leader in mobile product security architecture and strategy, corporate network security architecture and strategy, intrusion detection, and data science platform for security alerting and analytics. I also provided expert consulting and support on these areas for other business areas such as legal and compliance. More details about my role at Bloomberg LP can be found in my LinkedIn profile.
Since May 2021 I am a member of the Android Platform Security team, leading efforts aimed at hardening the security and privacy of Android devices.
For several years, I also engaged in external work advising and providing strategic guidance to government, industry and academia in matters of mobile and wireless security under SofHandover Consulting.
I hold over twenty issued and published patent applications, with another dozen pending to be published. I have co-authored manuscripts in numerous top communications and security conferences and I am the TPC Co-Chair for the ongoing IEEE 5G Summit series. I am a technology leader on LTE and 5G security for academia, industry and government.
My research interests are in the area of mobile and wireless security, LTE security, 5G security and machine learning applied to intrusion detection. In my spare time, I actively work in identifying, implementing on software-radio and proposing solutions to PHY layer threats, rogue base stations and protocol exploits against LTE cellular networks.
I enjoy playing and watching soccer – I am a fervent FC Barcelona supporter -, listening to music and going to concerts – follow my mainly music-oriented Twitter @Rgoestotheshows -, cinema, traveling and eating good food. I feel proud to say that I have lived in Barcelona – the best city in the World -, Los Angeles and New York. My other passions, aside from soccer and music, are technology and wireless security, hence, this blog.
My greatest achievements ever: 1) I watched live (on TV) every single game of the World Cup in 2006 and 2010, except when there was multiple games at the same time in the last round of the group stage. 2) I have seen the band Bad Religion live 21 22 times (and counting!).
Currently, my main activity aside from work is fatherhood. Something I am enjoying a lot despite being a high demanding job!
Welcome.

Saludos,
Roger
